A Rookie Mistake

Mommy and I have been together for a long time.
I came in to Mommy's life when I was 10 weeks old.

We have done a lot of work together.

We have completed three levels of Puppy Manners.

And I earned by Canine Good Citizen Award.

We went to a Rally Event.
And I won a Ribbon.

And we did a Tellington Touch seminar
and learned some good stuff to help me behave better.

So, Mommy and I are no rookies when it comes to training.

But Mommy says what happended to her at the campground was definitely a Rookie Mistake.

Here's what happened.
Like most of the campgrounds that we have visited this year, the latest one had a great place for doggies to exercise and play.

Mommy and Daddy took me to the play area three times each day.
That is my usual schedule.

The field was really big, but it was not fenced.
Daddy held the end of my 50 foot leash
while Mommy threw the tennis balls.

The shadow in the front is Mommy.
She is taking a picture of me, right before it happened.

You see, we were having so much fun.
I was running all over and really getting into playing.
Mommy loves to see me happy.
And she forgot about the leash.
At home, I don't use one anymore.

Mommy made the mistake of stepping on
the wrong side of my leash.
She tossed the ball and I took off after it.

The leash came up around the back of Mommy's legs
and got really tight.
Daddy tried to let go quickly,
But Mommy got "leash burn" behind both of her knees.

Mommy is a bit sore right now,
but she is taking good care of herself.
She says she was "stupid" to let this happen.  She knows better.
And it will never happen again.

I hope she is right.

Doggy Kisses,
Tanner

  1. Ouch and double ouch! Maybe some ice packs would sooth those nasty welts.

We all have done something with leashes that we regret later. Usually I think I have in under my toes/feet but then realize just in the neck of time that it wasn't secure enough.

That is one lovely lawn at a campground for poochies to run upon!

  2. hey Tanner,

Oh my dawg, so sorry about your mom's legs. OUCH! It hurts to look at it. My human, K, has gotten a few leash burns as well so she can feel the pain your mom must be feeling. Tell your mom not to beat herself up, it was an easy mistake to make. Especially with all the happiness and excitement going on. We are just glad the damage was not worse, and we also hope it never happens again. Hope she is feeling better.

Three levels of puppy manners? A Canine Good Citizen Award? A Ribbon? Wow, Tanner! I am so furry impressed! What great schooling and great recognition! Pawsome job!

  5. Ouch! I got slapped with a long line on Beau, years ago, and had a black-n-blue bruise up my whole shin and 3-4 inches wide. Took many months to fade completely. :(
