My Looooong Leash!

Last week, Mommy, Daddy and I met with Marta to learn how we could start going on walks again.

We used to walk every day, twice a day.  But when I started behaving really badly on walks, Nancy said we had to stop.  I got plenty of exercise in the back yard playing fetch, but no walks.

Well, now that I am behaving better, Nancy said I could learn to walk on a long leash.  Mommy was very excited.  She missed walking with me so very much.

So here are the new things I got this time.

I got a new harness.  This one has the leash attachment in the front.  It is made by Softouch.  I wear a size large and this one is 1” wide (I weigh 76.2 lbs now).  It is really comfortable.

I comes in Red, Blue and Black.  Mommy wishes it come in Brown to match my fur.

And I got a retractable leash!!!  Mommy said she would never ever buy one.  But she had to change her mind if she wanted to walk with me.  Mommy was hurt by one several years ago and she did not want to have that happen again.  So she chose carefully.

She picked on that would go 16’ but was made of webbing not cable.  If she had gotten the cable one, I could have gone 23’.  But Mommy didn’t want anyone to get hurt.

So, this is how we walk around the neighborhood.  We have gone out twice now and Mommy and I had a really good time.

Tomorrow, I will tell you about the leash that I get to use at the dog park!!!  That place is Pawsome!!!!

But , before I go, I have one more thing….

Happy Birthday, Kels!!!  Today is the big 21!!

Puppy Kisses,

Tanner

  2. hey Tanner,

Yay! Walkies! I am so furry happy for you! Nothing is better than being out with your human on a walk! Well, I guess meaty bones are better. Anyway, congratulations on this big milestone! I hope you enjoy your walks and have a blast at the dog park!

We have a retractable leash. I love it. My human got hurt a couple of times a few years ago from one, but now she is much better at handling it. :-> She would never got back to a normal leash. She wants to get me a harness but I am not sure about that. Let me know how you like yours.

Happy 21st Birthday to Kels! That is a great birthday milestone! Hope Kels has a fantastic day!

  3. Glad you're getting out again Tanner!

I'm not sure why your trainer said for a retractable leash though, they really encourage dogs to pull! Heh, I'm sure they have a good plan.

  4. Hey Tanner,

Great news that you're out walking again!! Yay! I use a harness too, it's pretty good especially when I go running with Mum....

I hope you're Mum is ok with that retractable lead, my Mum lost the skin off her knuckle when I pulled suddenly on mine when I was little, it rarely comes out anymore!

Good luck and have lots of fun,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  5. Hi Tanner, So glad you're able to go on walks again -- I didn't know it had gotten so bad! My mommy used to have a retractable leash, but she hated it (she got it for Nala way back when). I never got to try one -- do you like it? Mommy says she'd never use one again.

    Woofs & hugs,

    ~Bailey (Yep, I'm a girl!)

  6. Glad you get to walk again, but there is no way I'll do a retractable. A dog at the end of a 16' retractable who decides to bolt in the OTHER direction can get 32' of speed before hitting the end. NO way I could hold that!

Shoot, I couldn't hold Beau (at his worst) when he hit the end of his 6' leather lead.

A dog on 16' of leash who bolts across the street after a cat/squirrel will get struck by a car before you do a thing about it.

Not sure what your training is thinking, but perhaps you are walking somewhere safe.

Love the front clip harness, though. It's the only way to go! :)

  7. Sort of surprised by the use of a harness and a retractable lead. Both give so little control...and for a dog that pulls it can be really tough to hold that kind of lead. But if they work for you, well that is great. Best of luck.

  8. Glad to see that things are getting better for you. I am also glad that I think I have figured out how to leave comments again on Blogger Blogs. I have not been able to do so for some time now on several of the blogs : (
    Keep up the good work.
